I’m a downer mom
Nicole McMullin
Nov 23, 2007

A lady commented to me recently that this blog is a downer and that my parenting experiences are freaking her out. Sorry.

Perhaps it’s because the good moments swim by and I found myself treading water a good amount of the time. I can only hope the challenges that I have faced so far make me a better mother (I hope), and while there are moments when my new family laughs and plays, I just don’t contemplate the good times as much. I think about them, but not is a “what went wrong” kind of way.

But I will share the good times more in the future. And in the meantime, and in the spirit of my blog posts thus far, I offer this article: How to keep your baby safe: 4 biggest at-home hazards

I appreciate you sharing your struggles. I think it’s important to give women a realistic account of what it’s like to be a new mom.

I don’t think that your blog is a downer, but to each his/her own. I may not agree with it 100%, but it is interesting reading what other parents have to say. I invite you to check out my blog, too.

PUH-LEASE.

You’re not a downer. Does she not have a best friend? This is exactly what a best friend would say in a blog.

Like mine, who told me the TRUTH about labor and delivery. None of that “it’s a miracle” stuff. More along the lines of, enjoy those adult diapers after....

Keep up the straight talk, mommy

I hate to sound mean, but why do people expect things to be good all the time? If I landed on a blog that only extolled how wonderful it all was—the baby’s poo smells like fresh flowers—I doubt I would ever return.

Keep it real!
